The role of volunteers in today's modern society cannot be underestimated. The Town of Eden volunteers are no exception. They play a huge part in the running of our community, both on a local, state and national level. Our Volunteers come from all walks of life, are of all ages and help society in many different ways. It may be said, that the reasons why people volunteer may vary massively from one person to the next. But one pertient fact that we do know in the Town of Eden is that volunteering makes for a better community all round - both because of what those volunteers achieve and the types of skills they learn while doing their unpaid jobs. The Economic Role of Volunteers
It is impossible to put a price on volunteers and the role of volunteers but it is safe to say that they save the economy millions and millions of dollars a year. The jobs that are done by our volunteers range from highly specialized to mundane and boring - but all are jobs that need doing. Many of them would have to be done without volunteers and therefore, someone would have to be paid to achieve the same aim. Some jobs of course, would simply not get done if there were no volunteers to do them. This is why it is impossible to put a price on volunteers because they add something which is priceless - the willingness to get tasks done with no financial compensation. Getting Things Done Because the Town of Eden Volunteers are carrying out their tasks because they want to be there rather than because they need the money, it is safe to assume that jobs are going to get done. Everyone goes through hard and difficult times, both financially and emotionally. But the volunteers in our Town recognize the needs in whichever organization they are voluntaring for and see the benefits of their volunteering by its rewards, both internally and externally. Therefore, the level of efficiency is bound to be high and results will be good. Helping Society Of course, the main role of volunteers is to help society in whatever way they set out to do. The benefits to society of this is enormous. From helping elderly people and vulnerable people, to protecting habitats for wildlife, all of these jobs are done by volunteers. As well as helping people, these volunteers also bring a sense of community chosen, community pride and community working together to places.
When people know that there are people in our community that care about one another and can look our for each other, it helps residents to not feel so alone and isolated. To know who you can turn to and trust someone to come to your aid for whatever the tasks may be is what has given Eden the strong volunteer base that is has succeeded. The role of volunteers is vital and it would not be exaggerating to say that society would fall apart without them. In the Town of Eden our volunteers range from Emergency Services, to helping our environment, serving our elderly, helping our youths. They are the men and women who have left their homes to serve our Country.
They are the men and women who volunteer their services not only to their community, but to the world. They have no fear to leave their secure nest and put themselves in harm's way many times. Sometimes, over and over.
The Town of Eden is a community of people who pull together to accomplish their goals. We pull together for fun... our Corn Festival, Winter Festival, Celebrate Eden, etc. We pull together when someone needs help... our volunteer firefighters, first aid volunteers, reserve police, those who assist the elderly, etc.-the list is endless. Our goal in Eden is to continue to strengthen our volunteers base, the Town's business environment, our government, and our ability to serve our constituents." Every human being has a circle of influence within their home, among their friends and in their community that contributes in a positive way to society. We have seen in our Town how volunteering has contributed to our community in so many facets of life, but most important of all, it sets the tones by teaching and improving things for the next generations to come with the benefits of rewards for a strong and close community that will always prevail upon Life. Thank you to our Volunteers in the Town of Eden. Regards, Deputy Supervisor Mary Lou Pew
