NOTES & FACTS FROM THE POLICE BLOTTER
  • Officer John McCarthy, for a number of reasons, was selected as officer of the month. It was his tenacious follow up that lead to the arrest of the individual who stole a vehicle from ShurFine late in February. It was also noted the many hours off duty time he put in locating witnesses to another crime that was successfully solved and most importantly, the excellent job he did assisting a young mother delivering her child and the care given to the newborn.

  • On March 16th the Eden & East Eden Fire Department responded to a structure fire on Mill Road. It was immediately determined that the cause of the fire was suspicious. Officer Bishop followed tracks from the fire scene and two juveniles were found and questioned. The Zittel farm labor camp was destroyed. The two juveniles are being referred to a Fire Intervention Response and Education Program. That program will be taught by County personnel, Eden Firemen and police.

  • An early morning burglary was reported on March 23, by Eden Highway worker Bill Bosinski, who was on night watch for the week. Bosinski heard glass breaking, then an alarm at which time a vehicle was observed leaving the store. Bosinski chased the vehicle and obtained a license number and returned to call the Police. Lt. Felschow contacted our neighboring departments and the vehicle was stopped in Hamburg. Eden Police charged the two with the crime and Hamburg developed more information that led to additional charges in the Town and Village of Hamburg.

  • Police responded to a call of vehicles being struck by paint balls in the area of Rte's 62 & 75. Police located and arrested two Hamburg youths, a 16 and 19 year old, for Reckless Endangerment, a misdemeanor. The two were shooting at passing cars from an upstairs window at 7144 Gowanda State Road.

  • Although not as many as other months, we did receive two reports of vehicles entered and change stolen during March. Both incidents occurred on the rural section of Sandrock Road.

  • Those youths arrested last month for underage drinking have all pleaded guilty in Eden Court. Judge Cooper fined each $50 and ordered they volunteer 25 hours of labor for community service.

  • United States Census Bureau will begin collecting data at your homes beginning April 1st. They will complete the project at approximately June 1st.

  • Studded tires must be removed from motor vehicles by May 1st.
