Duties and Skills of Officer......

Chief Patrick M. Howard

Chief Patrick M. Howard

Duties include overseeing the personnel. This includes the training, directing, supervising and evaluating of all members in their assigned duties and the recommending of remedial and disciplinary action for inefficient, incompetent, and unsuitable performance of any personnel. It is my responsibility to assure the accurate preparation, maintenance and forwarding of reports and records, and to insure that our members conform with the department's rules and regulation.

Moreover, I am accountable for the property assigned to, or issued for the use of, members of the Department, and it is my duty to submit an annual budget to the Eden Town Board.

My experience as a law enforcement officer may be relevant here. I was hired by the Town of Eden in November of 1973, transferring from the Village of Gowanda. I was appointed Sergeant in 1975, Lieutenant in 1982, and Chief of Police in August of 1988. I am happy with the town and find my work here challenging and rewarding.
