Thank-you   for visiting the Town of Eden Building Department web page. As Building & Zoning Inspector for the Town of Eden, my tasks are varied. I review, check and pass on plans submitted with permit applications for compliance with the building code and local land use controls prior to issuing permits; inspect buildings and structures in the process of construction or repair for compliance with the approved plans and the code; and issue a certificate upon completion of the work.

Building Inspectors, also known as Code Enforcement Officers, are code enforcement professionals. The codes are intended to provide a minimum level of protection from the hazards of fire, inadequate building construction and improper maintenance in residential and nonresidential buildings, both public and private, so as to establish uniform standards to reduce the threat to public health and safety for occupants and users of buildings--basically saving lives.

One objective is of course to apply these codes to everyone in an evenhanded, fair and consistent manner. The codes and rules that we are all obligated to abide by create an environment that makes us proud to be residents of a well built, smartly developed and safe community. We need to understand that these laws are never really finished products, and that with citizen input and due process, these laws can change as our town changes.

As your Building & Zoning Inspector, I want you to know that every attempt is made to accommodate you and your concerns while striving to maintain the integrity of the office, enforce the laws set forth by your local legislative body, the Town Board, and the laws of the State of New York.
